Everyone uses their arms and hands every day and without them most people would agree that our quality of life is completely changed. Without hands one must be re taught how to do everything. The hands and arms are used daily to eat, dress, write, earn a living, create, introduce and etc but to do any of these things the hands require sensation and movement. The arms and hands must have all joint motion tendons gliding, and muscle contraction. When a problem takes place in the hand alone care must be given to all of the types of tissue. Other parts of the arm that could be harmed and would need medical attention would be the wrist and the elbow. The most common reason for having wrist surgery is serious carpal tunnel syndrome or for reconstructive surgery for broken ligaments. Elbow surgery is typically done for elbow tendonitis which is the swelling of the inside or out side of the elbow; this typically happens to golfers, tennis players and baseball players.

Hand surgery Los Angeles is the field that deals with care of the hand, wrist and forearm, but most surgeons are also expert in dealing with problems of the shoulders and elbows. Leading hand surgeon Los Angeles generally deal with any problems in this area without surgery until and only if necessary. Hand surgery can be done for a variety of reasons but generally done to cure carpal tunnel and hand tendon. After the surgery the hand will go into a few months of recovery time in which the hand will be in a splint only with minimal movement. The patient is enrolled in this program in order to rehabilitate the function in the arm. For this physical therapy the splint or sling will be completely removed. The patient may return to regular activity in a month or so depending on how serious the injury was and how the surgery went. Strenuous activity must be avoided because of fear of re injuring and delaying the healing process.
